Under the Customs Act 1962, Preventive Officers are empowered to search, detain, and seize goods. The role is more operationally active than an Examiner posting and requires readiness for irregular hours, outdoor deployment, and participation in joint operations with the DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence).
Basic pay is ₹44,900 (Level-7) with uniform allowance and other CBIC benefits. Pan-India posting with a preference for candidates near land borders (Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bengal, Northeast).
