About this post
Assistant Audit Officer (State) under C&AG is a Pay Level-8 Group-B Gazetted post, entering CGL for the first time in 2026 alongside AAO (Central) and AAccO (State). The role focuses on auditing the accounts of state governments, state PSUs, and state autonomous bodies. Officers are posted to offices of the Accountant General (Audit) across various states.
The educational qualification is a B.Com or equivalent Commerce degree, or CA/ICWA qualification. Age limit is 18–30 years (as of 1 August 2026). Aspirants must also qualify Tier-II Paper-III (Finance & Economics) which is mandatory for this post. Pay is ₹47,600 basic (Level-8 Pay Matrix) with standard central government allowances.
AAO (State) and AAO (Central) have near-identical job profiles — the distinction is in the entities being audited (state vs. central government). Both are Group-B Gazetted. Vacancy count is tentative; SSC will update the breakdowns before Tier-I.

To compete for Assistant Audit Officer (State), you must opt for this post during the application and then appear for Tier-II Paper-III (Finance & Economics — 100 Qs, 200 marks, 120 min, 0.5 negative marking) in addition to Papers I and II.
